Background

In Victoria’s wine industry, everyone knows Leigh Clarnette. A humble wine maker who makes beautiful, approachable wine for some of the Western Victoria's oldest and best vineyards. After decades as one half of partnership Clarnette & Ludvigsen, after his long time friend and partner passed away, Leigh came to us to help him find his own identity.

Brief

Building on a rich history.

Despite his skill and experience, Leigh was hesitant to step into the spotlight. Our challenge was twofold; to design a brand that embodies Leigh’s wine making style and, perhaps more importantly, to empower Leigh Clarnette to go forward with newfound confidence.

Approach

We consulted with Leigh and those close to him to get an understanding of the man behind the wine; to discover the essence of his personality and ethos towards wine making. We quickly learned that, while he was passionate and articulate about winemaking, he shied away from the business of branding. With those insights, we developed a brand strategy to empower Leigh to ‘own’ his years of experience, without disregarding his naturally relaxed, humble personality.

Results

A confident new identity.

The strategy, brand story and new packaging we developed has given Leigh confidence and opened up new opportunities his products. We also structured the product range and included Ludvigsen as the top tier range, ensuring the long term memory of his friend will live on. The elegant and sophisticated brand mark pairs rich, earthy colours and lush photography with minimal type treatments.

We loved working with Leigh, sharing his passion and energy to create such exceptional products. We’re proud to have helped him find newfound clarity and confidence in Clarnette (and in himself).
